In acknowledgement of the sewa of Bhai Charanjit Singh, 23, for training hundreds of Sikh children with Gatka (a Sikh martial art) in Canada, Sikh Sangat donated Rs 57,400 to his family.

Bhai Charanjit Singh was killed in a road accident at Vancouver, Canada, in May 2004. Besides him, Mr Parminder Singh, head of Gurmat Studies Institute, Canada, and Ms Reena Kaur, 17, a gatka student, also died in the accident. On 27th September, Bhai Sahib's family dealt with another unfortunate loss, with the passing away of Bhai Charanjit Singh's father, Bhai Balkar Singh after suffering a heart attack.

A teacher of gatka, Bhai Sahib had been living in Canada for the past two years. He had trained over 700 students and in this way he bridged the cultural gap between the Canadian youths of Punjabi-origin and Punjab.

SikhGiving.com sewadars handed over the money to Bhai Charanjit Singh's mother at her home, village PartapGarh, Gurdaspur Dist. as they came to know that his family was living under penury since his untimely death.

Sikhs based across the Globe from the UK to the USA and Canada contributed through a project on www.SikhGiving.com
